Claims Supervisor
Gramercy is seeking an experienced Claims Supervisor. This position is responsible for the overall company claims activities in areas including, but not limited to, Auto Liability, General Liability, Property Claims, Inland Marine, and Auto Physical Damage. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations you will manage and direct multiple contracted independent adjusters with a goal of cost control and risk management. Analyze and report on claims and related data via reports and in-person presentations. You will coordinate claims efforts with a wide variety of stakeholders including senior management, field management and Underwriting. Experience in the trucking/transportation industry and in a multi-state environment is required.
Responsibilities for this position are as follows:
- Assure department procedures and controls are followed in the adjudication of all commercial transportation and builders risk claims.
- Establish initial loss reserves for claims in all business lines
- Interact and correspond with any third-party administrators, who may be contracted with the company for claims services.
- Assign and oversee external adjusters to insure that processes are within regulatory requirements and Gramercy standards through daily review of claims, reports and audits.
- Oversee the set up of claims files
- Oversee and facilitate the approval of claims over the approval authority of the external adjusters.
- Interpret and apply contract language and applicable law to the claim facts and real life situations for proper claim adjudication.
- Oversee and lead investigation of claims for eligibility and entitlement in a timely and efficient manner by evaluating claim reports, court and police documents, avocation, financial and other critical information to determine validity of claim.
- Understand capabilities of specific vendor to effectively handle specific types of investigations and monitor cost associated with such investigations.
- Establish personal contact with the policy holder/beneficiary by phone or letter as needed to bring claim to appropriate resolution. All matters regarding claim handling should be thorough, understandable and properly documented.
- Manage all correspondence with company’s counsel regarding claims,
- Serve as Company Representative before insureds in settlement discussions
- Manage claims settlement authority up to $10,000.00 per claim.
- Manage salvage and subrogation for all lines.
- Evaluate the appropriateness of the payment, denial, calculation of the benefits, etc. on each claim, as well as the appropriateness of the external adjuster’s handling of each claim reviewed.
- Statistical reporting for all lines of business, for all states.
- Maintain files
The following background and skills are required:
- The ideal candidate will have a BS degree or equivalent
- 7+ years of claims management experience managing external adjusters and support staff with a Property/Casualty insurance carrier in commercial transportation industry
- CPCU and/or other claims designations a plus but not required
- Current Property/Casualty Adjusters license
- Expertise in commercial auto claim adjudication (working knowledge of compliance and general regulations as they relate to insurance policies and the industry).
- Past approval authority of $10,000.00.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (ability to communicate effectively and professionally with policy holders, agents, attorneys, TPAs or any other source necessary to obtain specific information or explain claim decisions or handling procedures).
- Ability to complete projects on time; quickly assessing and analyzing problems and applying sound solutions.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities with strong focus on detail.
- Strong organizational, analytical and computer skills.
- Excellent Computer skills including Microsoft Suite
